Lemon Seed Saving #12: BeautyCrunch.com

I'm a big fan of BeautyCrunch.com- it's primarily an authorized reseller that offers overrun and discontinued (but still very good) artistry brand beauty products. This site literally has prices that seem too good to be true.

I have ordered from this site once before, and the experience was great. My order came in about a week and my makeup was excellent. The site mainly carries Stila, DuWop, Too Faced, and Pop Beauty, Sugar and Pixi. Check it out for yourself. It's  a cheaper way to treat yourself to something pretty and new :)

Get Your GroupOn

Sorry. I can't take the credit for this one. I got the tip off from a co-worker:

Groupon features a daily deal on the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in a variety of cities across the United States.
This site is an antidote to a common ailment for us city-dwellers: there's so much cool stuff to do, but the choice can be overwhelming. With so many options, sometimes the easiest thing is to go to a familiar restaurant, or just stay at home and watch a movie. As a result, we miss out on trying all the cool things our cities have to offer. By focusing on one good or service each day, Groupon makes it simple.

Right now I'm set up for "Daily Deal" offers specific to my city. Take them for a test drive. You have nothing to loose...

Lemon Seed Savings #11: Reduce A Bill

Just wanted to share…anyone who has the AT&T unlimited minutes plan can call in to customer service and ask for the new reduced rate of $69.99. This means that instead of being charged $99.99 for unlimited minutes, you now save around $30. This offer works for iPhone lovers too!

The company isn’t advertising this, but is trying to be competitive with Verizon.  Hope this helps someone :)

Lemon Seed Savings #10: Weekend Plans that Cost Nothing at All...

Images

Listen Up. It's National Blood Donor Month. Everything posted here has an economically friendly angle. Be it free, cost effective, or conducive to saving your dollar bills. This particular topic allows you to give back and help save a life, without spending a nickel.

In the US, most blood centers have difficulty keeping any more than a three-day supply of blood for transfusions. This means that the blood you donated last month is long gone. The need for blood, platelets, and plasma is constant, but annually only three in every 100 Americans donate blood. Inspired to give yet?

There's even compensation for plasma donations. Plasma, is the property in your blood that transports water and nutrients to all the cells in your body. This is used for patients who require a transfusion after suffering burns, shock or trauma. Before you are approved for this type of donation, you must pass a physical examination and be tested for a number of problems. But if all goes well you can donate up to twice a week and compensation is around $35, depending on location.

Giving blood is an easy process. Go to the Red Cross blood donation website to find a blood drive near you. The site has lots of tips for first time donor fears and types of donations. Best of all walk-in donors are almost always welcome.

For the Uninspired, Unemployed, and Anyone Inbetween

It's seems that everyone is more excited than ever to put 2009 behind them. Almost as if a curse has been lifted. I too, am guilty of this very optimistic New Year energy "contact high" :) But for good reason. Late last year, I wrote about Lemonade, a short film that takes a very intimate look at what just a few of the many established talent of the advertising world have done since being laid off. I'm not going to drone on examining this film. But I will say this: If you are looking for some inspiration, if you're unemployed, if you're working!, if you feel you have fallen asleep in your life, if you fear that you are next on the chopping block at work, or if you just want confirmation that you are not going crazy because you feel like a hamster on a wheel....Watch this film. I beg you, watch it. Best of all, its free to watch via Hulu. Please enjoy.

Lemon Seed Savinsg #9: Your Cable Bill

So since moving to a new city, after almost 6 months I have come to the realization that I cannot live without the internet. So after much research and hard work, I found a company that was charging a reasonable price for just internet. Keep in mind that every singe cable company that I talked to tried to up-sale to a package. But I decided to stick to my guns and have only internet installed. Why? For three money saving reasons:

1. Streaming Prime-time Content-
I am in love with sites like Hulu.com, ABC.com, MTV.com etc. These sites offer their prime-time content in it's entirety (this is probably not a surprise to you). The problem is you may not be taking advantage of it. Which results in paying around $40-60 dollars a month on a basic cable bill.
2. Netflix-
We all know how Netflix works, and I'm happy to report that I watch full seasons of HBO specials and Showtime, plus all the other content on the site for only $4-$8 dollars a month.
3. Tivo/DVR- I'm saving the additional fee your cable provider charges for Tivo/DVR. You can go online and watch the same content for free when ever you want. Is that not like a free DVR? I'm just saying.

Now for the downside (because there is always a downside to consider):
1. Live TV and sporting events-I am missing out on things like Award shows, Football, and Basketball games. These sports are in full swing right now and unless i go to a bar or the BF's house or the family, Im not seeing it. If you happen to know where I can see my games online please PLEASE tell me. I do like watching these shows from the comfort of my own home. But this is a luxury I'm forgoing at the moment.

2. Commercials- I don't see about 75-80% of the commercials, promotions, and infomercials you consume when watching TV. Fine by me :)

3. What else am I forgetting. Tell me please.

So, for now it's week one of my experiment. At the end of the month, I will report how much money I have saved, and how much I have been able, or unable to maintain satisfaction consuming the media I enjoy.

But so far, so good- I'm doing just fine. And for now. I'm only paying $24.90 a month.

Let's do this...

Lemon Seed Savings #8: Save money using your iPhone

Source: GeekSugar

Gap's Style Mixer app for the iPhone does more than just let you peruse and mix Gap pieces — the cool feature is that when you open the app near a Gap store, you unlock a special discount. So, sure, you can mix and match styles and then add them to Facebook, but what you really want is the discount, right? Yea!
